A home for words & reflection

House of Ayaat is more than a brand — it is a home for words, healing, creativity, faith, womanhood, storytelling and connection. Every piece shared here carries the spirit of reflection and remembrance: gentle reminders woven through art, writing, workshops and conversations that honour the human experience.

At the heart of our logo is a gold, imperfect circle — a symbol of wholeness, return, healing and continuity. Unlike a perfect, polished ring, it is organic and textured, reflecting the beauty of growth, becoming, and the human journey itself. A circle has no beginning and no end; it speaks of connection, belonging, and the quiet return to self, faith and meaning.

It is a symbolic home — a space where stories are held gently, where reflection is honoured, and where women are reminded that they are allowed to grow, unravel, heal and begin again. Founded by writer, artist and educator Farhana Yunnus.

Four threads, one quiet craft

i

Islamic art & creative expression

We celebrate the beauty of Islamic art through creative experiences and handcrafted projects inspired by faith, heritage, nature and storytelling — each an invitation to slow down, reflect, and discover the beauty woven into everyday moments.

ii

Creative workshops & mindful making

Creativity can be a form of reflection. Through decoupage workshops and hands-on creative experiences, we make space to slow down, engage with beauty, and find moments of calm, connection and purposeful making.

iii

Writing workshops & reflective storytelling

Every story holds meaning. Through guided writing workshops and reflective sessions, we help shape memories, experiences and personal insights into words — creating space for self-discovery, expression and connection.

iv

Publishing & literary expression

The written word lies at the heart of our journey. Through Dear Waheed and Hana Ayaat: Fragments of Emotions, we explore faith, love, memory, resilience and lived experience — honouring the power of words to connect, inspire and preserve.

The Books

Words on the page

Penguin Random House South Africa Dear Waheed

A mother's legacy of love and wisdom in thirty unforgettable letters.

Written through the long stillness of the Covid-19 lockdown, Dear Waheed began as thirty letters from a mother to her son — penned in the early hours after Fajr during Ramadaan, amid the distance and uncertainty the world had suddenly imposed. What started as a way to hold love close became a luminous meditation on faith, resilience and return: wisdom written for one heart, and offered to many.

Breeze Publishing Hana Ayaat: Fragments of Emotions

A collection of poems gathered from the landscapes of the heart.

Through moments of joy and sorrow, certainty and longing, the poems explore the emotions that shape our shared human experience. Each piece is a fragment — small on its own, yet together forming a tapestry of reflection, resilience, faith and hope.

"Distance taught me to write the things I would once have only whispered."
Gatherings

Events & workshops

Our gatherings bring together art, reflection and storytelling. At the heart of many is decoupage — a practice of layering and transforming simple materials into something whole, a gentle reminder that beauty can emerge even from fragments.

Words about her words

The Journal

Notes from the studio

A slow, seasonal journal of reflections, writing and creative thought. Here, pieces gather gently — on faith, motherhood, craft, creativity, and the quiet details that shape everyday life.

Drawn from studio notes, published work and ongoing creative exploration within House of Ayaat, it is a living archive of thought and observation — some entries arriving as finished reflections, others as fragments still unfolding. Until it opens fully, follow the daily work and new writing on Instagram.

Writing

House of Ayaat collections

A growing body of reflective writing — gathered as living series of thought, faith and storytelling. Written as companions for different seasons of the heart, some are brief reflections, others unfold as letters. All are rooted in presence, reflection, and the quiet act of noticing.

A series

Whispers of Hope

"Perhaps the tears in your prayers are not signs of breaking, but signs of becoming. Seeds are watered before they bloom."

For those who are waiting. For those whose prayers feel heavy. For those who have not given up hope, even when hope feels fragile — may these words keep you company on the journey between prayer and answer.

A series of letters

Letters from the House

Reflective letters written in the spirit of companionship — for those navigating seasons of uncertainty, longing and becoming. Each begins simply, Dear Heart, and offers presence rather than answers — released slowly, one at a time, as a living collection that continues to grow.

Letters from the House · The first letter

Dear Heart,

You may not see it yet, but something is unfolding for you. Not always quickly. Not always in the way you imagined. But quietly, beneath what you can measure or control.

There are days when waiting feels like standing still — as if life is happening everywhere else but not here. Yet stillness is not absence. And delay is not denial. What is written for you will not miss you.

So soften your urgency. Loosen your grip on the outcome. Breathe in the space you are standing in. You are not forgotten in this moment — you are being held within it.

There is a wisdom in timing that the heart learns slowly. And sometimes, what we call “not yet” is simply life being careful with us. Even now, something is taking shape. Even now, you are becoming someone who can receive it.

With patience,
The One who writes your story already knows its ending.
